The best car for $50,000

Hello everyone, im 17 and own a 1996 c220. I love this site and have come here to get some suggestions about my fathers next car purchase. My father drives a 2004 Nissan 350z. He hasnt had any problems with it because he keeps all of his cars in perfect condition. However, after 5 years he just wants a new ride again. I would like for him to get hooked on benz's like I am but any car manufacturers are welcome.

Qualifications:

Price limit: Maybe 55,000

Convertible

Good Power

Fun car to drive

Can be 2 door or 4 door but must be considered a sports car.

Preferably 2005 or newer.

(im not asking for an actual car listing, just some models)

For all you car experts out there, just name some cars that you know under these qualifications for me and my father to check out.

Thank you so much! I look forward to seeing your suggestions.

CLK (or SLK if two seats are enough). Come to think of it, few-year-old SLs are close to that price range.

Cool I was 17 when I first joined this forum. I'm very big on Mercedes Benz, (especially the W126=W140 body style)

But for under $50k you can't beat the C6 Corvette. You can pick up a used C6 Z06 for well under 50k. It'll turn more heads than most cars double or triple the pricetag.

If it HAS to be a Mercedes, you simply can't go wrong with the 03+ SL. I almost traded in for an 04' SL last year. ALMOST, lol

Here is my 06' Vette

I'd go with a factory certified pre-owned SLK55. Just check youtube for video and Top Gear episode review and you may have a winner. Also, if more room is a consideration, I think the Maserati Quattroporte is a beautiful sports sedan, built by Ferrari and very sporty in looks, performance and with top shelf interiors. They are commonly available used for $40-55,000. The exterior and interior options are virtually limitless on a modern Maserati so there will be many to choose from out there. (Go to their website and try the "build your own"... great fun!)

Convertibles are nearly useless in most parts of the US. It is either too hot or too cold and you get burned by the sun or rained on by the clouds. Most convertible cars are less structurally solid than their hard top counterparts and often times weigh a lot more due all of the extra bracing needed to stabilize the car's frame.

Try to get him into a hard top. If he just has to have a convertible, get a folding hard top only. An 07-08 SL550 might do the trick. As suggested above, an 07-08 Corvette is also a good choice.
