New Member - 2001 E320

Hello. I have always wanted a MB and purchased a pre-owned 2001 E320 in September with 68,000 miles. I absolutely love the car, but have spent approximately $1500 out of pocket on it thus far. I was fortunate enough to purchase a 2 year warranty with the car that has helped some. To date I have done or had to have the following done:

Had all fluids changed, new cabin filter, air filter, tune-up
New Brake Light switch
New slip ring in steering wheel
New power steering rack and alignment
oil/filter change

Since purchasing the car, the BAS/ESP light decides to come on whenever it takes the notation. I took it to my local dealer and they say the ABS/BAS/ESP module needs to be replaced and it is $1600 - OUCH! The warranty covers ABS modules, but not BAS/ESP. So, an ensuing battle has begun to get at least some of the expense covered. Reading some of the threads, I wonder if the dealer is correct. I have begun to think it is a voltage problem. The weather here, in NC, has been warm and I haven't used any climate control, etc. Thus, I have not seen the BAS/ESP malfunction light either. Time will tell. It just seems like these cars are so complex.

I look forward to meeting some of you.

Lots of excellent information, tips and DIYs for your car in the W210 forum, come join us when you have time.

Do you know if they put in a genuine MB brake light switch? I've heard that aftermarkets can be unreliable.

Take care and enjoy the ride,

All the parts are genuine MB. It's always been dealer serviced and it's very well maintained. I just need to ignore some of the crazy electronics. As long as the car is drive able and the brakes work I'll be just fine. LOL Greg
