I just purchased a used 2005 E500 with only 13,000 miles. Needless to say I'm pretty excited. I checked with a local Mercedes Dealership and they have agreed to offer me an extended warranty that they claim is the same as the manufacturer's warranty. Basically, they are offering me a 5-year (from the date I pay for the warranty) 100,000 mile (~73,000 miles left) for ~$3,850. Since I've never purchased an extended warranty I'm not sure if that is a good deal or not. A few questions I have are:
- A friend of mine owns a certified Pre-owned BMW and his warranty covers maintenance (oil changes, tire rotation, etc.) and things like brake pads. The warranty I am considering clearly does not. Is it reasonable to expect an extended warranty could cover these items? I was surprised to hear that BMW does.
- Does ~$3,850 seem like a reasonable price for the warranty listed above?
- Is this something I should be "shopping" around for? I thought that perhaps most Mercedes dealerships would have prices all around the same for the same coverage. My friend who owns the BMW says that is not true and some can vary greatly in regards to cost.
