Windshield Washer Warning Light---How Do I Disconnect It

I've got a W124 (92 300 TD). The windshield washer warning light is on (and I know why---the tank leaks, but I'm too cheap, for the time being, to replace it).

Can someone tell me (or direct me to another thread) how to disconnect the warning light?

Unplug the connector from the tank and short the plug, making the system think the circuit is closed, as would be the case were the tank full.
This presumes the sending unit works!
But, for $50 at AutoHaus, why not just replace the tank?

Shorting the plug may not work, some cars have sensors in series and usually at least there is a fixed resistance when a switch is closed, for diagnosis purposes (allowing short circuit and open circuit being detected).

Either a correct resistor or shorting the circuit "behind the resistor" would work for sure.

Have you checked to see why it is leaking? Mine was and it was a rubber seal on the pump where it goes into the tank, I think it was about 25 cents and three minutes' work.
