Post New Member from Portsmouth UK

My name is Martin, from Portchester (Fareham) UK, but it's probably easier to say Portsmouth (only 2 miles away).
My Mercedes ownership, started in a strange way.
I am lucky enough to have had an accident (not my fault, a tool hire van from a neighbouring company from which I work, slipped his clutch, I was enjoying listing to a bought (?) but burned top 40 CD in my car, and suddenly lunged forward towards a brick wall), with my old Peugeot 307 Convertable, which only suffered superficial bumper damage, but I was offered a courtesy car, and jokingly stated, I wanted a Merc.
They (Drive Assist), stated a Mercedes was on the way, I expected a Smart Car (nothing wrong with these IMO btw), but got an E Class 220 CDI instead, and after a month of driving this around, plus being in a recession with a pretty safe, secure Job, I did my homework on buying a used E class, and after figuring out how I could "loose" the £11.000 negative equity in my hire purchase deal price on the Peugeot (I cheekily walked away mid-term out of a finance deal, which you are legally allowed to do in the UK), I saw and made an offer, bought a iridium silver E320 CDI (56 New shape), from Brighton Mercedes for £17.500 OTR (with 27k on the clock), paying £55.00 a month less than the 307CC, which I'm putting by for servicing etc, and have had no real problems apart from having had an inlet valve breakage (fixed under warranty), and had a new windscreen fitted (for £60.00 excess on insurance), the old one being pretty pitted, and made the mistake of buying a take out meal , parking outside a tool hire company, and getting a cross head self tapper in the tyre, so far near the side wall as to require a new tyre (£215.00 - fittted by Kwik-fit who managed to partly mash the paint on my 17 inch alloy, but upon making a bit of right noise, they are going to get the wheel refurbed gratis) but apart from that, no complaints, and great gas (diesel), mileage.
I only average 8.000 miles per year, and so she should (will have to) last a while, but everything reeks of quality, and although I still drive as if I am at the wheel of a 7.5 tonne truck (an ex Royal mail Driver, before becoming a Manager), I set the cruise on 60mph for the dual carrageway and watch the speed junkies flash past, the ride quality and trip is something to be enjoyed every time, and there is plenty of overtaking power on tap as needed, plus the Xenons make night driving a breeze.
Only possible mistake I have made is cleaning the screen with RainX, and now its smeary, but gonna buy some Autoglym today to sort this out.

LOL Martin S. (Portchester UK).

Working as IT Systems Integrator now btw, good clean fun with MOD PC's.

Sounds good, I had a loan of an E220CDI for a day when my car was being prepared. Very smooth, comfortable and feels commanding to drive. Couldn't believe it was getting 44+mpg too!

Thanks for welcoming me everyone!
Poole, I used to go there as a child, remember "Brownsea Island" (used to be owned by Woolworth's as I recall), and the potteries.
