Exclamation Diagnostic Test

Can anyone tell why a MB mechanic have to run a diagnostic test for thee hours. I took my car iin for repair and he tell me he have to run the diag test on the computer and it will take 3 hours. My car wont start sometimes. I turn the key and nothing. the lights and radio works though.

It's the S class. The C class is one hour, E class is 2, and three for the S, they figure owners can afford it.

Seriously, I'd be looking for a different mechanic. Quick plug in of the SDS, start expanding the search after that. An issue that pops up sometimes is a loose or corroded ground connection (not at the battery, chassis ends) and also a solid check of the battery and terminals. But none of that should take three hours.
