Question Possessed Car, Computer Brain, Faulty Wiring, or?????

First, thanks for any help I may receive.

I recently bought a '95 C220 and it has behaved oddly on several occasions. I have been standing near the car and the lights will flash as if I had armed an alarm with a remote, which I don't have. If I lock the doors, when I get back they are unlocked (vice-versa, sometimes). If I am pressing the brakes with the car in gear, it will suddenly jerk forward as if from a surge of gas. The dashboard gauges individually work at various times. Also, when the radio is on the display continues to flash. I am wondering if these symptoms could be due to the faulty wiring that I've heard this model is notorious for. Does this strange situation sound familiar to anyone? I am desperate for help in getting moving in the right direction. Blessings to all.

Have you checked to make sure the battery cables are nice and secure?

Thanks for the reply. No, I didn't check to ensure the cables were tight. I will check them. The previous owner had just changed the battery because the car sat for two years. We were thinking something needed to be reset, but when the lights began flashing I became...intrigued? The car doesn't have an after market alarm, only the factory alarm system. When you lock the doors the system sets without any indications (i.e. horn, park lights, etc.). So, I am confounded.

Hi mercie_me,
you might also like to fossick around and find and check the earthing connections. At various points on the car a whole lot of wires are collected onto a large bolt welded to the chassis. There is one in the engine compartment on the inside front mudguard, and another in the boot (trunk?), and probably others....
I seem to remember reading years ago that people were having problems with their W202s - petrol lid and boot opening erratically, etc, which was tracked down to earthing.
problems.
regards from Australia
