Transmission

I have a 2000 s430. It will not shift in 4th gear sometimes. Took to mercedes shop and they said I need a transmission. Is there a transmission from GM or others that will replace this transmission and can I buy replacement parts. Help me please

Hi, Lillie, welcome to the forum. Please take a moment to click the user cp link and complete your profile re: vehicle and location as that is often useful information.

You don't mention mileage but if it's never been serviced I would have that done ASAP. And while they are in there have them check/change the pressure regulator spring (on some older models it broke) and replace the adapter/connector on the front right of the transmission (the original design is prone to leaking, fine once you change it). Best to call around and find an indie shop or indie transmission shop that is familiar with the 5-speed automatic, get a few more opinions. If it is indeed shot (which is unusual if that's your only symptom) then you can get a rebuilt unit shipped for about $2,700, with several hundred more to have it installed.

There is also a forum specific to your car, the W220, for specific information that's the best place to post your questions and search for answers.

But no, you can't put another brand transmission in your car. The only way to change the transmission to a different brand is to change the car, too.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg
