Help a prospective owner
I'm a car guy who has never owned a Benz, but have long had a fondness for 450SLs.
I guy down the street must have a good lawyer because he got the keys to the ex's SL500 (I'm guessing '97-'99 by mileage) and has let it sit in the driveway for almost 2 years. Thinking he may have had enough revenge by now, I've thought about slipping my number under the windshield wiper to see if he's ready to part with it, provided it turns over.
I'm assuming it's an aluminum block that isn't prone to seizing (anyone want to confirm that), but would love to hear any suggestions for pre-treatment before I try to hook up the cables. Also, any general wisdom regarding specific headaches (i.e., vacuum lines prone to wear or dry rot) that I should pay attention to before attempting to drive it further than down the street.
