1980 450 SL issues (70,000 miles)
1. HVAC system quits during acceleration.
2. Engine has the power of a 4 cylinder Cavalier! Won't pull itself out of the way unless timing is advanced to 5 or 6 degrees BTC. (Then it runs like the afore mentioned Cavalier.)
3. Cruise control will not engage. It will pull the car and continue to speed up but when you let go of the lever, it doesn't engage.
Can't find anything wrong with vacuum in the HVAC system but trying to diagnose the engine and the cruise vacuum systems is impossible as no information seems to be available anywhere. I have the MB service manual (on DVD), access to Chilton, etc manuals.
I have had the car in a repair shop and spent way too much money to no avail on these issues. (In fairness, they did correct another problem but none of these)
I believe and the mechanic agrees, these all seem to be vacuum issues, but I'll accept any others that may lead to some help. Dynamite?
