care for convertible top

i have a clk 63 amg cabriolet, what is the best way to care for the soft top. dealership says its ok to go thru standard car wash , everywhere i read says dont do it , will ruin the top

I don't take my car through any mechanical car washes. Even the brushless ones use a harsh chemical during the 1st phase that most call the Pre-Soak cycle. Wash you car yourself or pay $10-20 to have it washed by hand. Also try a search on the Detailing forum for more specifics for your cloth top.

I agree. I'm fortunate to live near an independent hand wash place in Silicon Valley, costs about $16.

Better yet, wash it yourself on a sunny afternoon. An hour or two spent hand-washing your car and putting it in first-class shape is better than a session with a therapist.

I tend to agree, but I hear the therapist will prescribe some recreational drugs...
