Hate to just barge in, but I have a mint condition, 1987 420SEL and it has hill hold. When I either brake on a steep hill, or allow the car to come to a stop on its own, the car will not roll backwards. I tried this repeatedly. And it holds the hill for as long as I let it. Well over a minute. And, when I slipped the transmission into neutral it began to roll backwards. Without using the brake I slipped it back into drive and you could feel the brakes stop the car from rolling. Hill Assist or Hill Hold, whatever, it does hold the car from rolling backwards even on the steepest of hills.

Reason: Forgot to capitalize SEL
