Hi, I just found this site while I was bumming because I can't drive 380 SL anymore. I hope someone here can help me get back behind the Wheel.
I have had this car for 10 years and I have replaced just about everything replaceable on it over that time. However, last month I moved to South Korea and decided to take the car along with me because I really couldn't bring myself to part with it. Only to find out on January 1st 2009 the Korean government passed a new law. This law requires all imported cars to be equipped with a OBD system before clearing customs. That is, on cars imported by non Korean citizens. If you're a Korean citizen you can get a waiver for the OBD system law.
To make a long story short, I need to figure out how to put a OBD system in my 1985 380SL or I won't be able to register it. I will be here for a minimum of 3 years and possible up to several so even if I spent the absurd amount of money to ship it back I would still have to pay for storage until I return. I can't even sell here because it was imported by a foreigner so it won't qualify for the OBD waiver unless it I shipped it back changed the title to a Korean citizen and import it again under their name.
I know I said I'd make the long story short so I apologize.
If anyone has information on aftermarket OBD systems or thinks its in anyway possible to implement and OBD system into an older model Benz I would love to hear what you have to say.
