It's funny, lots of people say they don't like the designs of Chris Bangle, but nobody can deny he's had a major influence on car design. His 'flame surface' design philosophy has been picked by Audi, Mercedes, Lexus, and others. When Bangle rolled out the ugly seven series (which was the best selling seven series ever), most cars were still carrying influences from the 80's aero-jelly-bean school of design. Now, they all have an edgier look with creases and lots of surface development as well as the Bangle butt. Although Bangle's original expression of his ideas as on the seven series was kind of raw, it's been refined and improved. I think the current three series is quite nice as is the new seven series. So, I think Bangle got the last laugh and has secured his place as a major designer. It will be interesting to see what he does next.
