I think I'm more confused than ever! Last year, two M-B dealers told me to use Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 5W-40... yesterday, I called both those dealers again and was told NOT to use the ESP version any more, but to use Mobil 1 Formula M 5W-40. Both dealers do not use 0W-40, saying it's not recommended. Finding this oil thread, it appears that many here do in fact use 0W-40, and I did review the engine number with the recommended specifications. But in the chart posted here, I don't even see the engine number 112, which is what my 2001 E320 has, but will assume that it does fall under the M-B specifcation of 229.50.
So, where does this leave me? Should I in fact be using 5W-40 or 0W-40, should I use ONLY Mobil 1 Formula M, or can I use the Mobil 1 Extended Performance that is available in 5-quart jugs at Wal-Mart? (I just looked on the Mobil 1 website and I don't even see a 5W-40 or 0W-40 listed for Extended Performance, so that probably answers that question.)
My local Autozone carries Mobil 1 European Formula 0W-40; the label does not show 'Formula M'.
Lastly, I used the ESP version on my last oil change and have driven 500 miles or so... is it okay to run it longer, or should I do another oil change and get rid of it? (Vehicle currently has 5,300 miles since new.)
Thanks for any imput on this confusing issue!
