Question Mystery device!

Hi all-

I bought my '95 SL600 preowned. Apparently the previous owner had installed a significant amount of electronic hardware, most of which he removed or swapped prior to my purchase. This included a GPS navigation system and a Bluetooth handsfree unit. I've identified most of the relics of these systems and removed them because for whatever reason he left the GPS receiver and the Bluetooth speaker on the car. He did, however, leave the K40 built-in radar detector and Audiovox alarm systems installed.

I now have one remaining piece of hardware on the car that I simply cannot identify. It has no writing on it and is mounted inside the top of the windshield on the drivers side. I don't know if its even functional, let alone what in the wide wide world of sports it is. However, I do know how to take digital photos and consult the wise folks on this forum! (flattery sometimes works ) The previous owner is pleading a loss of memory.

Here are four photos. Any feedback is most welcome, as I don't want to remove it if its a component of the alarm system or radar detector. I apologize for the lack of focus in some, the picture is a bit difficult to take because of the location and lighting.

Yeah, I know I have paint swirls. The previous owner was a big fan of machine washing.

The photos don't really reveal what the item is. Can you write back What is the Name of the Product? Audiovox? the name? Part Number?

Also, like you said; hard to focus, those Spider Webs are horrific to watch!

Just by the pictures, it looks like an old tech mid 90's remote starter and locating device.

The paint does look horrible. It needs some professional detailing ASAP before it gets any worse.

Thanks for such fast responses! The Audiovox alarm system does have a remote starter and two-way remote control. I'll bet this is the antenna...

As far as the paint, the detail shop I use does get rid of the swirls and it usually lasts about 4-6 months. I'll take 'er in after my next service for a full polish.
