Just now I am a new member to this community. The reason is a problem that I would like to solve before/instead of buying another car...
The car I own is a (European) 300TD Turbodiesel 1987 (W124) with a 6 cyl. turbo engine (OM603) and an automatic gearbox (722.4 I believe). It drove about 750,000 kms already! Never had any significant problem but now it only wants to drive in reverse and refuses to go forward. Checking for oil learned me that the level was too low - I filled it up but still the same behaviour. I can recall that the last few months the shift from 2nd to 3rd was not smooth - the engine seemed to rev up a bit before it engaged 3rd. I took the cover underneath of and inspected the filter but didn't find metal parts or so. I checked almost everywhere but could not find proper technical manuals - the last trial was with 'europeantransmissions.com' and it promised a PDF with 722.4 drawings. What happened was nothing as if nothing was available and I emailed them but even sending the email was very unclear if it ever got through! My question is: can anybody help me finding these manuals because I still take my chance to find a serve valve being broken or so. You all know that the value of the car is lower than a repair, especially in an authorised workshop! My other question is: maybe someone encountered the same problem and can advise me. My third question and last hope, is there someone in the Netherlands with a gearbox to replace?
Right now I have more time than money so therefore I take this 'road'. Many thanks for a reply!
