Performance options for 01 ML55 AMG auto trans? manual swap?

I dont really know where to start looking for information regarding the auto tranny that came in the 01ML55 AMG, i have a parts car here and have been toying with the idea of doing a motor swap into something.. i am not an auto tranny fan really, so does anyone know if there is a manual gearbox that will bolt up to a ML55 amg engine? obviously i will need a flywheel and a clutch to suit..

and if not.. does anyone know where i could find a manual valve body or any real information on how the tranny is buit? im a VW guy and i know there is a ton of info online if you know part numbers or at least have some general knowledge to help start a online search, but i am a MB newbie and dont know where to start..

if i could make this trans shift manual i could put it to some good use..

thanks for any help you can lend!
Cale

Mercedes has never produced a car with V8 engine and manual transmission. Certainly not the engine you have. All Mercedes manual transmissions, then, are designed for smaller, less powerful engines.
