I live in Belfast, Maine, and am now on my third 123 diesel. First was a 240, second a grey-market 300 5cyl. natural aspirated with 5 speed, the newest is a 5 cyl turbo with OttoMatic transmission.
The grey-market car is on the verge of rusting out (sound familiar,) and the machinery is in fine shape, so a winter project is to swap transmissions, so I'll have one of the few turbos with a manual transmission.
I stick with the 123, in spite of the fact that they rust, and are somewhat primitive, because they are somewhat primitive. As in, I can fix them. All current-model cars are incredibly complicated, and I don't see trying to figure one out. Where did they put the battery? Which computer code? That's stuff for a dealer, and the nearest Mercedes dealer to me is 60 miles away.
