Like 20 years ago air shocks for US makes have been quite popular. I had it on El Camino, when I could pump the shocks for leveling the rear. I have a receipt showing 2300 lb of cargo on the bed.
Don't think it would be easy to adopt them for Mercedes, but from what I remember they did cost about $39 at the time.

I would say search on the ***************** forum and there are still many active members with W123 diesel wagons.
