oil in the coolant

Hello, I have a very low mile 1994 c 280, that we discovered the waterpump was leaking externally, then we noticed oil in the coolant, first thought was cracked head, but doesn t overheat good heat in cabin, no coolant in the oil, runs like new, has anyone encountered this, I was told it could be the oil cooler seals are bad, any help out there??

Head gasket? I don't think the oil cooler is liquid cooled so it wouldn't mix coolant and oil. Water pump bearing lubricant? It's possible to have oil in the coolant without having coolant in the oil. Casting flaw in the head? It could be any number of possibilities. The block and head are the only places in a stock engine where coolant and oil are nearby one another and can mix.

The head gasket on that engine is known to have some issues if it was not replaced with a later design gasket.
