sudden instrument failures

I've had a noticeable whine under the hood of my 1984 300DTduring acceleration and deceleration since I purchased the vehicle several weeks ago, and apparently ignored it one day too long. Today the whine is gone, however unfortunately so is my ability to turn off my engine. I'm thinking that is a vacuum leak issue, but I've also lost many of my guages and controls. No Tach, fuel guage, heat or gas guage, or turn signals. Any ideas out there?

Thank you

The dieseling of the car is probably most likely due to a leak in the vac system...get a pressure test done and check the nut at on the line of the brake booster. Check ALL the fuses in it for the lights and gauges. These type of cars seem to have an issue with the old fuse types that one fuse may kick out something that it is not necessarily for (like my old car lol). The ends might be damaged.

Sounds like 2 different issues. While kill switch is vacuum operated, the German brass fuse holders react with American zinc fuses.
Check for disconnected vacuum tubing. Especially in the oil filter area and get full set of copper fuses.
