Question staggered rims for 2000 170 class

I've got 225/45/17 all the way around on my 230 and want to put 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 on the rear. Are there any concerns I should consider?

Welcome to the forum, Fred. FWIW there is a tire and wheel tech forum as well as a forum focused on the 170, so I'd guess you will probably get more pointed information in there as opposed to this general forum.

That said, there is nothing wrong with a staggered wheel setup on the non-4matic cars. The two primary concerns are width and OD on the tire size and offset on the wheel size. For a rough guide on tire OD you can use one of the calculators such as the one at tire1010.com or miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html In this case your OD is almost equal, so those sizes in a generic sense are fine.

My suggestion would be to work with a trusted tire and wheel vendor to ensure that first and foremost, you get quality tires and wheels that will not create safety, balance or handling problems of any kind for you. The second reason is to be sure that everything fits properly and that if there are any fitment concerns, the vendor has to make it right. Thus stick with someone you know or who has been recommended to you, so with that in mind I would steer you as far away as possible from ebay vendors and the like. The few dollars you save won't mean that much if problems arise.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg
