06 R350

Ok getting ready to pull the trigger but need the final "go ahead". have already done research on Edmunds etc. Have a sand colored 06 R350 w/31k miles, pano, nav, htd seats, sat radio, auto lift gate...i think thats it. has never been hit (checked it w/a paint meter and carfax) and I'm out the door at $20,500. I'm essentially buying the car for 19,500...looks like a screaming deal but wanted to get some more experienced opinions. they want another $2500 for the CPO but i really didnt want to cough up the extra money. any advice, feedback? need to buy it today so any response greatly appreciated!!!

I take it that it's desert silver in color. As for the price, that's pretty good. But the R Class values are falling like a rock off a cliff, so if you're going to buy it, plan on keeping it. I think MB is canning it after the 2009 MY. I wouldn't spend the 2100 extra for CPO, either. You could do whatever it is they're going to do for a 1/3 of that price.

Think about what the CPO buys on this rapidly depreciating, low demand vehicle. Mainly an extension of the factory warranty by very few months at the most, assuming the vehicle does not need significant reconditioning. Don't pay $2500 extra for that.

Have you seen the Carfax on the R to know it's ownership history? They should provide that regardless.

yes i did get the carfax and its clean...brought it home today on a "test run" and although my wife loves the ride as well as the fact that its not a minivan after careful inspection the storage space may be an issue (we have 3 kids). at 19,500 though I'm almost inclined to make it work. i've pulled up threads in this forum and it seems as though with the specs and mileage on the car they are selling closer to 23/24k. anyone else have any feedback? should i do it? is it THAT good of a deal?

I think the R with diesel engine would be great family car for years to come. Gas engine will give you some limits, but still not bad. Did you ride on 3-rd seat? I did and wasn't impressed.
The value of things in US is a tricky part lately.
The 1-million dollars California mansions sell for $600,000 now and nobody can guarantee they hit the bottom.

With the current dismal car sales, you could probably negotiate a CPO for much less than $2500 if you looked around. There are a lot of them for sale. The CPO kicks in when your factory warranty expires (do you know the car's in-service date?) and is good for one year or 100K miles. Depending upon how much you drive and how long you plan to keep the car, you might consider purchasing an additional two-year Mercedes warranty that will kick in when the CPO warranty expires, assuming you won't be over 100K by that time.

By the way, is this the only R350 you have looked at and driven? If so, I urge you to drive a few more. It will make you more knowledgeable and give you a better negotiating position.
