Introduction - Hello
Hi, everyone - Glad to be here, should have joined a long time ago, but just discovered the website. I have a 1990? 500SL AMG, Anthracite over dark metallic grey, black leather...which I love to pieces. The reason I've set out the question mark above is that no one seems to be able to assist me in determining the true year of manufacture of my car. It's registered as a 1990 model, yet I ran into a Mercedes mechanic who pointed out that the air bag door sticker indicates it's a 1999 model. This makes some sense to me, (oddly enough) since the car is apparently spotless, almost as new, and only has 50,000 miles on it, pretty slim for an eighteen year old car. I read somewhere that the VIN can disclose the date, mine is WBD1290661F003436...which I understand to mean it is indeed a 1990 model...could someone clear this up for me, or advise how I'd go about it? Each of two Mercedes dealers I've had the car serviced at were confounded by the number, it "blew up" when they entered it and no one seems to be able to be very clear about what's going on....
