Smile Mercedes-Benz at third place in Customer Retention study

A recent J.D. Power and Associates' Customer Retention Study, Honda has snagged the top spot away from Toyota.

Honda, for the first time, led the industry with a retention ranking of 64.7 per cent, followed by Toyota (63.2) and its luxury Lexus brand (60.4).

The study saw Honda's reputation for building safe vehicles with high resale values as instrumental in persuading car buyers to replace their previous new vehicle with another from the same brand.

Fuel economy, ownership and maintenance costs, and deals/incentives also had an impact on the 147,238 buyers/lessees in the U.S. surveyed.

Mercedes-Benz at 58.6 per cent squeaked by BMW at 58.5, for third place.

Someone always has to be the loser in these types of studies.

At the bottom of this year's report was Jaguar, which only managed to hang on to 26.2 per cent of its customers.

This is actually a little more interesting than the usual junk from JD Powers.

Interestingly, after owning two hondas, my opinion is honda does everything adequately, but nothing really stands out. Pretty mundane IMHO, and my two hondas near the top in highest cost of ownership. Way to many things went wrong after warranty that cost and arm and leg, even doing my own repairs. At least my mercedes does lots of things outstanding and so far very happy as long as I do the maintenance.

Suprised toyota wasn't 1, I've been much more impressed with toyota and Lexus and would probably by another one.

The lessening of their standing in surveys such as J D Powers. There are always people that complain about stuff. Some are valid and many are a result of other situations but the largest are from owners that can't afford the car that they purchased. Usually the only ones that even answer surveys are pissed because people are usually kept busy doing things like having a life. I am here because I retired and it's fun to hear what folks re talking about and if something is of interest I respond to a posting.

Do I have, I sold them all. I spent 40 years driving, repairing, living with the cars and honestly I sort of got my dose at least for now. I am sure that I spent more time in a Benz than most anyone else here. I'm just here trying to share a small bit of knowledge when it seems it would help.
