Hello to everyone,
I'm Loring. I am civil servant living in northern Maine and I have 5 years left until retirement. I recently bought a 76 300d with the W115 body. Information on that variety seems to be scarce, but I am slogging along with the work on my old beauty. Needless to say it is freezing up here, so I have about 5 months before I need to consider putting the car on the road. It had not been run regularly since about 1991, so the fuel looked like old coffee with creamer, and the air filter was solidly plugged. By some miracle we got it running long enough to get it into the garage from the car carrier. All those issues and a few more have been cleaned up. Currently I am working on installing a new Bosch Fast Glow Kit. The directions with the kit could use some improvement, but the part that gets me is that there is no mention of how to wire in the pigtail that plugs into the control unit. Any help that anyone might be willing to offer will be greatly appreciated. I have an idea that it might hook into the wiring for the old loop stlye glow controller. Finding that unit on this car seems to be a mystery as well.
This is my first experience with Mercedes and my experience with diesels is pretty small, but I must say that I am very impressed with the quality and engineering on this car. Even though it has some rust rot it is very solid. American car makers stopped putting that much metal in a car many moons before this car was built.
I have been reading the threads in here for a month or so with great enjoyment. I am happy to become part of group.
