Question Key turns off egnition while driving

So another key thret Not funny though.
I was driving and all over sudden the car stops in the middle of the road. Waht apeared to be the problem is that key wen from "ignition #4" position to the previous position #3 (i thionk the #s are correct) so my stearing wheal got locked and ignition stopped. I had semilar problem before.. and if that happand on highway i will get in trouble, so i wanna fix that ....

I also some times have trouble rotating the key from position 0, it feals like key is stuck. Also one side of the key is worn out so i only can use the key in position button down (Oh yes I have C280 '97 w/ IR + Mechanical key).

So maybe some one knows the best solution?

a) should i get new key insert? "Mech Blade"
b) should i take the key lock out and check strings or something?

I dont feel to good about messing with the key system so hope some one can help.
Thanks a lot!

I would get a new key (cut) from dealer. I think it is held in the remote by a pin. Do you have a lot of junk hanging on your remote, the weight could turn it!

I dealt with mechanical key/cylinder on 1997 E class. Even the new cylinders are pretty affordable -replacing them takes good trick. I managed to lock the wheel blockade and had to cut it off. Look for the thread in W210 section.
If you have just worn blade, but good cylinder the blade alone cost in $5 range at Duval. I am gettig house keys cut for less than $2.
Good luck.

Well.. worn blade would not turn the cylinder but it is cylinder and probably switch spring that holds the blade in position.
Good luck, sounds like you are going to need it.

ups replacing cilinfer may be a problem
so
a) how to i get to the cilinder?
b) how can i "harden the "string" to increase "firmliness" (um whats the right word) well the state of the key being more firm in position
c) and more over how can i test the results... so far i had like 4 incidents w/ key turning the car off during driving. and in all cases it was like i started the engine drow dowe for like 30 sec.. most of the time till the next full stom and once i press brake the key goes off... seems that it doesnt turn of while im driving (thanks god... knok knok knok) Under such rear symptoms i'm not sure how can i see if i made any goods in terms of repairing

So I got the key from the dealer.... guess what... it doesnt work
opens dooors, opens trunk, starts the ignition half way (test lights are on, but doesnt go into next position where engine actually starts

Dealer told me that cylinder is 130$

I see there are cylinders on the net for $50 but will the cheap one work? I would assume they will not configure it for me? So does it mean that I just have to go with dealer offer?

I assumed the cylinder I bought for $59 was OEM cylinder, just not coming from the dealer.
Hard time is matching all locks on the car. Ask dealer if they can rekey the new cylinder to old key, so you won't have to deal with different keys for doors.
