New Member...YAY!

Wish I had done a little more internet research 6 1/2 years ago when I bought my '78 280ce for my 30th birthday. I probably wouldn't have had so many problems finding parts and help.
I've read alot of posts on here and now that I am a member (granted only a free member, but still a member) I will keep myself better informed on things.
Had I known the car I bought had the problems its did (and still does to some degree), I probably wouldn't have purchased it, but the lines are...gorgeous, to say the least.
I live in Indiana, and for those of you in the midwest, you already know how badly the weather can treat a car, especially the salt for the roads in the winter. It's got rust on the fenders and the quarters, but the rockers are still good, and the floors don't have any holes. The rest of the body is in decent shape, with paint fade being the worst problem.
The interior has seen better days, but its mostly just wear (carpets, spidering of the laquer on the wood, center armrest gone, seat cushions sagging, and a cracked dash). Of course, I would show some wear too if i had the miles it has on it (the odo stopped somewhere just north of 278k).
The worst is the engine...it was last started 5 years ago and when it did, I think it breathed its last breath...a HUGE cloud of white smoke. It had been knocking pretty severly for a while, well, since I bought it actually. I just didn't have the time or $ to sink into it with 6 other "projects", so it's been sitting ever since.
I found a euro S280 with a set of AMG wheels and a great motor, but not much more, so I took what I could.
Now I am looking for help, cheap help! Free, if it can be.
Will the euro S motor fit right into the same space as the ce without any mods? Will the euro motor be more powerful, or should I consider some more drastic conversion like an AMG or V8 since I am going to be tearing into it anyway?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks Everyone!
