Thinking about buying a 1996 e320

but i am not sure, this will be my first Mercedes and i was wondering what the maintenance on these cars is like, also the car has a little under 200,000 miles on it how much longer can i expect her to run, i know the guy personally and he babies the hell out of this car, and it looks like it just came off the showroom floor. he is saying he will give it to me for 3k cuz he just wants the money for a dp on a truck what do you guys think

Has your friend owned the car from new? Where are you from, where would the car be driven?

I'm afraid the main problem with this model is rust if it is driven on roads where salt is used at winter. Arizona would probably be fine.

If it is as good as you say now, then rust probably would not be an issue for you. Anyway the main areas to watch are I believe the doors, trunk lid and front suspension supports.

Of course 200 000 miles on a gasser means it isn't like it was when it was new but maintenance is the key and in this case the car could have a good deal of miles to go still.

i and the car is from northern california, no salt on the roads and i know this guy washes his car like every 3 days, so i am pretty sure he maintanes it just the same... i am just gonna use the car as a daily driver i only live about a mile from my job so i am not gonna be putting alot of miles on it
