Yeah, the old brick and mortar shops charge more. That's no surprise. Check out a new digital TV online Vs. a local store. Guess who's cheaper. Same with most stores.

But we still need the local dealer for his expertise, some things we just can't do or figure out ourselves.

So use the dealer when you have to and do it yourself or shop around for lesser repairs. Yeah, the dealer rates seem high....so don't go there unless you have to. It's your choice.

But I think the name calling is not needed. It's old and not clever. What's the point?
Ditto....

Point is, that collecting $1780 profit for about 15 minutes spend on processing the order is not ethic.
At least not in normal folks books.

That theory is not universal. When I did construction litigation, the one thing that was a constant theme was that a lot of litigation issues arose from the fact that the project was being done by the "lowest bidder" contractors.

I suspect that doing the lowest bidder route may not be you first thought when seeking out a neurosurgeon.

so what your saying is because my dealer over charges and you say dealers are never right they cant fix cars.....i must be the problem....... my come back rate speaks for itself and the fact i come on here and try to help should be more proof of that. i take pride in my work , and pride when i fix a car that someone eles couldnt .....BUT FORGET ALL THAT ALL TECHS ARE UNSKILLED, STEALERS RIGHT
I dont think im missing the whole point here.. plus dont take it personally or did you hear me saying it you? What im telling you is that everytime there is something wrong they dont know what it is, charge a lot of "training time" and then in the end I end up here and ask for help so I can provide them the right way to fix it. You think thats funny? I dont! I suppose to pay buku money for knowledge they dont have. Thats my whole point. And now stop whining.

And if you dont know what I mean go through those postings here, best example was my center speaker distortion. I even printed out a DTB and what did they do, first through it in the trash then calling me up telling me the speaker is blown. B/s just to sell me a new speaker. Then the woofer. Blown. No its not, but hey we can fix it for ya, 1300 plus 2h labor... If I see that I can get the OEM speaker for under 300 and doesnt even take 30 minutes to change them, then explain why dealers are not stealers...?

Mechanics at MB are paid by the "JOB" under warranty if they can not complete it it comes out of their salary unless the dealership pays for extra hours. Having said that if they can complete the "JOB" faster they can book more "JOBS" on their time cards. The typical seasoned employee can book more than 40 hours during a work week. This comes from the scenario that says "if you can sell a new air filter" as long as you are checking it it is a profit of the mechanic and the dealership since flat rate labor is involved. I have noticed that when my car is in for service, and the part is not in stock, they typically find something.
My recent experience was a call that my instrument cluster bulb was out, behind my outside temp. Well since it was in, fix it, 1 hour labor? It must have gone out in the service bay.

Regardless. The Title: Stealership is Highly Earned by the vast majority of Stealerships out there.
Folks like you, who are maintenance clueless, spend hours fishing around, burning up shop-hours and then sticking it to the Customer.
If you don't know how to properly and efficiently trouble shoot problems, then you should clock out and spend your own time educating yourself.
Don't stick us with the Bill for your Education.

Now for you employed Wrench Heads, this is gonna get your panties in a bunch.
Wrench Heads do not like to be told their Stealership is wrong most times.
But remember that from the East Coast, to the West Coast, North and South, the entire Industry has "earned" this horrible reputation.
It's not us guys here in the Forum who are the devil.
We simply point out what is already well known and apparent.
