I have a '97 Sl320 and the brake pad sensor light is coming on. I checked the pads visually and only the left front is worn down; it's been only 11k miles since I had a complete brake job. The shop will probably compensate me for the cost of the pad, but not the labor; and they may have used aftermarket pads. Do you think that they should cover the cost of the labor as well, and should I specify mercedes benz pads as replacements?
Hi, Shannon, welcome to the forum. Please take a minute to click the user cp link and complete your BW profile re: vehicle and location as that is useful information.
I'm not sure why you think the shop will compensate you, brake wear is highly variable and while that is not many miles, it can be less than 10K if you do a lot of short trip stop and go city driving. If they put in defective parts that would be one thing, though.
However, it's exceedingly rare for one side to wear more than the other and that usually indicates a problem, such as a sticky caliper.
Any quality OEM pad is fine to use; the only reason to pick one of the many good aftermarket options is to reduce brake dust.
Do make sure they fully check things out, the unusual wear concerns me.
Last but not least, this general forum is just that, general, but there is a forum here that is specific to your 129, scroll down the page and you'll see it but for now follow this link: R129 SL Class - Benzworld.org - Mercedes Benz Discussion Forum
If you search in there you may find more information and posting will get you some ideas that are more specific to your chassis.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
