Post ESP/steering angle sensor malfunctions...

I was hoping someone out there could help me out with this problem...

About 3-4 times last week after i first turned on my car, while running, the dashboard/radio/headlamps would turn off then immediately back on. This would keep happening until i would turn the car off then on again. On 1 occasion i decided not to turn the car off and just drive off. During my 25 min drive the same thing would happen, but the car would continue to drive without the engine cutting off. While I was driving, and the power would turn off then on again, i would get the malfunction notice "ESP, visit workshop."

I took my car to the dealer to have it checked out. The dealer stated that the BAS light came on due to my steering sensor angle, that it is faulty... the cost of which would be $1,100 to repair/replace.

Does this sound right? Does this sound like something I need to have fixed or replaced? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Well, the steering angle sensor is used in the ESP program as one of the sensors providing input. So if it failed, it would make sense that a malfunction code concerning ESP would appear. I definitely sounds like something you need to have fixed. Your ESP is a safety system and you should make sure it's working correctly.

Other, more experienced and knowledgeable responders than myself may have more insight. But it would be helpful if you completed your profile so we know what kind of car you have and how it's equipped.

Hi, cfacosta and welcome to the forum. Please take a minute and click the user cp link to complete your BW profile and include your vehicle and location information.

Also, please note that the new member introductions is a pretty wide open and informal place, which is a great place to say Hi, how are you. Seeking detailed advice may not yield meaningful results, so please don't blame that on the forum.

Further, you failed to note what model and year of Benz you own are are asking about. Obviously that is pretty important information.

If you scroll down the main page of the forum, you'll notice that it's broken down by chassis, such as W140, W208, etc. Find the one for your car, and then post your question there. That's the best way to get the help you seek.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
