Hello everyone! Learning my 'new' '92 500SL

I just got my hands on a '92 500 SL. It's in pretty good shape, with some issues due to age. Mainly the plastic "stuff" around the engine. I am going to wash the engine and search for more broken vacuum lines, etc.

It's silver / black Int. & Top. 3 years ago I bought a '93 Black Cadillac STS, and I changed the Northstar engine "all by myself". I learned a lot, and now I want to fix the bugs in this beautiful car!

I don't have a factory repair manual...... yet......

I am SURE I'll be posting questions about this SL.

I have to drive the MB from my friend's driveway. I am charging the new battery. The car is very dirty, and the engine area is shameful!! There is some hard & broken vacuum lines ( located passenger side - upper/ rear engine. They broke in my hand. I don't know the drivability yet... I'll find out tomorrow.

When I swapped the Northstar in my STS, the most work was to PROTECT the wiring from heat!! I re-did most everything around the engine, and I have a pretty good idea this process will be the same. The one thing I do not know is what all the stuff does is on the SL. I don't have a repair manual for this..... ( The repair manuals for my STS was wonderful!)

When I get the car home, I'll send a "before" photo before I wash it.

Oh, yea... & air the darn tires!!

This is going to be a process....

The ignition switch ( tumbler?) is sticking when you try to turn it. It feels uh, "crappy". It does not want to turn until you try about 40 times. I found out you can turn the switch, and with a couple little pins, you can remove the tumbler and then just use a screwdriver to turn it on. ( You have to 'break" the decorative plastic trim over the ignition also?)

Wish me luck.

( Patience...)

Up-date... There is a metal jacket around the lock that spins around. I need to remove this to gain access to the 2 pins to remove the tumbler. How do I remove it?
