I have a 2002 E320 4 matic - 75k miles. I am the 2nd owner. Recently my power locks (as i was driving) started going up and down randomly. No reason... nothing wrong with the doors - they all were closed tightly (learned that one the hard way) - When the doors lock and unlock that also triggers the interior light to come on and go off. I have since switched that light off until I can find the issue. Additionally, if I lock the car - its random- but the alarm will go off. No one around... it just starts sounding its beep.
Next - my Engine light came on - the car runs a bit ruff until 40 mph. I would go straight to the Benz dealer for service...but I'm recently divorced and struggling with house payments and all the other fun stuff I was left with. Any advice? I only put about 10 miles a day on the car - I don't drive far to work. (do I need to add a gas tank clearner...or whatever those cans are I see guys put into the fuel when they fill it up)
and, what about Services A & B? I don't know why I am paying so much for a stupid oil change? I had a BMW 5 series before I bought this... and I must say, I liked my Beemer better... any advice
Hi, Griff, welcome to the forum. My sympathies on the divorce. Please click the user cp link and complete your BW profile to include your vehicle and location, that's often useful information and more so when you're seeking help.
Also, you posted into the general forum, but there is a forum specific to your model, if you scroll down the main page you'll see the sedans section, in there you will see the W210 forum. Within that forum you'll find a wealth of information about your W210, much of which is in the help/tips/diy stickies that lead off the W210 forum. Including topics that cover your issues noted here...
Locks: check under the rear seat for water, sounds like it's a PSE issue.
CEL: DON'T IGNORE IT. If you are in the states any Autozone will read the codes for free, get the codes then check the 210 sticky to see what they mean. Driving with a CEL means you are (1) spewing more emissions and (2) may well be damaging other, very expensive components. This is a case where penny-wise=pound foolish.
A&B services: they predominantly are glorified oil changes, but you can't simply ignore/skip the inspections that are included. If you're not going to do them, then you are rolling the dice. Most of them are simple for a DIY-er, but whether you do them or take it to an indie or dealer, they need to be done.
BMW vs. MB: Don't take this the wrong way, but these are both very sophisticated cars. You can prefer one over the other, but you can't ignore service on either one or you'll pay handsomely in the end.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
