Question '98 E320 Wagon question

I have a 1998 E320 Wagon with the following symptoms but differing opinions on the source.

1. Car is off, key is in No. 2 position, defrost-only button is engaged: The defrost works fine.

2. Car is on, defrost-only button is engaged: Works sometimes.

3. Car is on, blower is set to MAX (or one below MAX): Works sometimes.

4. Car is on, blower is set to any other position: the blower does not work (faint squeak sound).

5. Temperature on a high setting: hot air

6. Temperature on a very warm setting (mid-70's): not very warm

One opinion is that the blower motor/regulator needs to be replaced the other opinion is that it is another issue because the blower works on the high setting.

I appreciate any help with this.

Hi, Peru, welcome to the forum. Please take a minute to click the user cp link and complete your BW profile re: vehicle and location. That is often useful information.

You posted in the general forum, but there is a forum here specifically for your model. If you scroll down the main page you'll see a sedans section, within that you'll see the W210 forum. In there you will find answers to all of the common questions with the W210. At the top of the 210 forum are several stickies with help and DIY tips, and one of those references a diagnostic you can run on the HVAC system. That will probably get you started in the right direction. (Rebooting the car may help, too, that sometimes clears up weird little electronic anomalies, but you have to follow the reset procedures in your manual thereafter, and be sure you have your radio code, too.)

Take care and enjoy the ride,
