It's marketing ! MBz is trying to capture several consumer segments which of course good for their business (they think). One model that didn't sell well is the R class so it's being evaluated for discontinuance.

2010 B200, Polar Silver, Premium Pkg
2008 ML350, Obsidian Black, Premium Pkg
2008 C300, Calcite White
2007 C230, 040 Black, Premium Pkg (gone)

In my opinion c, e, s, cls, g, sl, cl, and gl class should be retained.

I am glad to hear the E class will come in a 2 dr coupe. After attending the SF Auto Show last night, I think my 1990 300CE has better lines than anything mercedes was showing. The new direction of the C class looks way too much like an Acura for me. They have lost their classic distintive look.

A classic looking 2 door E Class could definitely get my interest.

1984 300D 225,000 miles (hit and totaled by bad driver)
1987 300E 209,000 miles (donated to worthy cause, still going)
1988 300E 240,000 miles (given to one of my sons)
1998 E320 120,000 miles (Obsidian, 17' E500 rims, sold to another son)
1990 300CE 129,000 miles (Silver/ black int) Daily Driver
2000 E430 82,000 miles ( Desert Silver 17" W211 rims)
