2001 s430 seatbelt retraction problem
My 2001 s430 driver side seatbelt has had a retraction problem when buckled for sometime now. I have tried everything from cleaning the belt to spring issues. I finally found out the issue. Their are 2 wires coming from the area of the fastener that go under the seat into a module. A pink one and a yellow one. When I click the belt, pull out the seatbelt it doesnt retract, when I unplug the yellow sensor from the module under the seat it instantly retracts. Funny part is the seatbelt still locks when pulled on when the sensor is unplugged. What is the purpose of this sensor and how would it actually correct the issue not being connected? Can I go without it or do I need to get it into the shop and get the seatbelt fastener replaced? What does this sensor actually do?
