Looking to upgrade . . . Which Mercedes Would You Chose ?

Hello

I am debating on which car to settle with, and so far I narrowed down my choices to the following:

1. 2005 CLK500 Coupe

2. 2005 E500

#1 & #2 are V8, therefore rising gas prices will hurt me pretty quick... any comments on MPG?

3. 2006 CLK350 Coupe

4. 2006 E350 4-Matic

I do not know about any common problems to these cars or recalls, so if anyone can share some Pro''s & Con''s that would be great!
Also, any sort of links which discuss these things would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You!
- Anton

Well, FWIW, my mom has a 2003 E500 that was bought at 21st Century Leasing and the car's been pretty trouble-free, which is remarkable, since 2003 is supposed to be a bad year for W211-body cars.

Generally those cars are very reliable till you start taking them to mechanics.
Our 10-years old ML320, what has the worst opinions between MB is the best yet with $120 in repair cost in 10 years.
OP compares 2-door coupes with 4-doors sedans. We are talking different species. If you don't need 4-doors why would you consider it?
All are nice cars.

I'd find an 07 E350 in your price range out of all the cars you have listed. Then you get the face lift and updates. Keep in mind that CLK's are re-styled overpriced C classes. That CLK that you are looking at was based on one of the worst C classes to date. An E class is an E class and drives like one.

Unfortunately, the list is all over the map. Two doors, four doors, vee eights, sixes, and four wheel drive. I know what "I" would buy but that’s because I know what "I" want. For example, do you have a need for four wheel drive? If so, there’s only one car there that meets that need, so the choice is simple. If you don’t need it, that car can be removed from the list. Do you want the power of an 8? If so, forget about the sixes. If you think fuel economy is more important (although M113 eights have been known to get great mileage), buy the six. Some people like coupes, others like four doors, the only thing that should matter is - what do "you" like?

Whatever you buy, I’d recommend a thorough inspection and CPO coverage. You'd hate to buy something only to find the owner traded it because of some flaw.

Ditto to MarcusF here, especially regarding the CPO coverage. If what the dealer does is by the book, it should already have had a thorough inspection once it is offered as MB certified.

Agreed, these cars can be very expensive to maintain without the CPO warranty coverage.

I Have both a 2007 CLK 350 and a E350 They are different cars.
The CLK is a Great 2 seater where the E350 is a great 4 place

Go with the late 350 vs the 500 or 550 as the 350s performance is very good

less on service and insurance
