Auto Gearbox Gremlins

I Have an E270 with a five speed auto box. One day for no apparent reason, at motorway speed the transmission started to vibrate when the car was under acceleation. the fault seems to be intermittent since then but is worse when everything has warmed up a bit.

The fault is only noticeable in 4th & top gear and almost dissapears when kick down is used, when the revvs are low in top gear, gradual acceleration results in a vibration that would almost shake your fillings out, but at other times it is as smooth as a velvet jockstrap.

The first thing to check would seem to be the transmission oil, but not having the oiptional dipstick, and with only the benz dealer locally who seems to have the item I have been trying to identify what the gearbox is (lots of number references for that 722.6 & 722.7 etc) so I can get one from ebay.

If anyone has information how to identify the gerabox type I would be grateful for the assistance, or indeed if the symptoms sound familiar any nudge in the right direction would be appreciated.
