Question MPH to KM/H

Hello, just brought a 2006 SL500 in from the US and wanted to change Speedo. I have read on a few forums that this can be done without changing the cluster. Does anyone know how to perform this? without going to MB Canada.

" imported a Sl55 into Canada and had to change the instrument cluster for Kilometers. There is a light in the cluster that is not lit and is for KPH. However Mercedes insisted that the entire instrument cluster had to changed to get Kilometers. The cluster in Canada is 1968.00 plus installation.

Therefor according to Mercedes Benz of Canada you cannot just complete a programing change to have you speedo register in Kilometers."

"I have a 2003 in US.
Wanted to be able to switch to kph for visit to Canada.
Dealer was able to use their software tool to designate kph for one of my keys if I activated "Key dependent" in the "Convenience submenu" on the Multifunction display. On my recent trip I took along the proper key and started the trip with "Key dependent" off - mph. After crossing the border I pulled over and set "Key dependent" to on - kph. Speedometer, odometer, fuel milage, navigation system, etc - all switched over to metric measurements. Returning to US set "Key dependent" to off and was back to mph.
Good luck."

You dont need to change it over to km/h. MB dealers in canada will try to tell you that you need this so they can empty your wallet, but it is not required, i bought an 04 SL500 from nevada and i live in alberta canada. I looked into it and theres nothing that can be done to convert it over. The cars that went to the US market do not have the option to read metric on the spedo. If you find a way to get it to read in KM let me know in a private message, because i looked long and hard and ended up just getting used to converting km into miles.

My 2005 E class has an option of displaying kph on digital display even when the round scale is in mph only. Would surprise me if the S class of the same or newer year would not have the option.
It is on in the steering wheel adjusters on my car.
