Hi guys,

I just bought a 92 600sel and was told the following needed to be done but I cannot tell if I am being ripped off or not. Maybe you guys can help me decide if I am or not please. This is the list of parts, with prices and hours. Thanks for helping me.

1 Thermostat and drain coolant: 1hr labor plus $88.00 part,<---sounds right
1 Temp sending unit: No labor and $25.00 part<------O.K do it.
1 Temp sensor: 1hr labor plus $38.00 part<------O.K do it.
12 Spark plugs: No labor plus $214.00 parts<--Sounds right, if no "labor fee"
2 Air filters: No labor plus $49.00 parts <------------Sounds right
1 Fuel filter: .75 hr labor plus $51.00 part<----------Do it, sounds right
1 Battery: .4hr labor plus $145.00 part<------------ Sounds fair.
1 Serpentine belt: 1.4hr labor plus $65.00 part<-----Do it
1 Steering idler arm: 1hr plus $68.00 part<----------Do it.

1 Set front brake drilled rotors: $324.70 parts<---I would double check all these brake part prices
1 Set front brake pads: $102.00 parts
1 Set rear brake drilled rotors: $303.74 parts
1 Set rear brake pads: $92.00 parts
3.5hrs labor to do brakes<----------Labour sounds about right

2 Distributor caps: $440.00 parts<----Seems WAYYY high for two caps.
2 Distributor rotors: $154.00 parts,<---Sounds about right
2 Distributor spark shields: $204.00<---WTF is that?
Labor for distributor repairs: 1.5hrs<---Seems too high, maybe .75 hours work
2 Rear window regulators: 3.5hrs labor and $374.00 parts,<---parts seem reasonable, labor high
2 Gal coolant: $48.00 parts<---Unless it's Mercedes label coolant, too high
Inspection of overheading problems: 3hr labor<---sounds like a BS charge
Repair left front door panel: 2.5hr labor<----Seems right, what is he doing to the door?

Total parts: $2785.64
Total labor: 19.05 hrs

If you guys would please help me decide if this new mechanic is honest or is just taking me for a ride like many and marking the parts up too high and pumping the labor times entirely too much. Thank you so much for helping me out.[/QUOTE]
