The only difference is that when stealer's mechanic forgets to put the plug back -you'll never know it, because the car is taken away from you. The car-wash with each service at my local dealer always had double meaning to me.
Than ikchris I am not talking about DIY car software, or taking turbo apart. Oil and filters on cdi changes exactly the same way what on models made 30 years ago. Same for tire inflation. If you read stories on older models -you'll find endless incidents when dealer was swapping expensive computers on the car, because their mechanics couldn't diagnose faulty sensor.
The World is not perfect, but if you make learning error it is still better than being "professionally" screw.

Not for folks that can't find the oil filter.

Not for folks that have never used a vacuum oil extractor.

Not for folks that have no TORX tools.

ESPECIALLY not for folks that don't have the W211 Service DVD.

If this person wants to accomplish minor service on his car he will acquire the tools and knowledge to do so. You did at one time I'm sure. I would encourage him.

Are you a shop steward in the mechanic's union or something?
