2001 E320 MAF problem

I learned about BenzWorld by Googling for info about my 2001 E320. The CEL (Check Engine Light) had been coming on intermittently. At the annual service, I had the dealer diagnose the problem for a mere $115. I was advised that I needed a new $700 MAF (mass air flow) sensor.

I balked at paying $700 for a light that turned itself out. Ha ha. Soon afterwards, the CEL came back on. The local auto parts store read the OBDii codes for me. By Googling the codes ... here I am.

I ordered a new Bosch MAF from an online vendor mentioned in a thread here. I printed the wonderful MAF replaement pdf file in another thread. My parts should arrive tomorrow. I certainly think that I can change the MAF in under an hour (15 minutes or less, maybe.)

If the CEL doesn't extinguish itself with the new MAF after a couple days, I'll get the codes read again. But I'm optimistic that through the info on this website, I'll save $500 and drive happily ever after.

Btw, look for the white E320 on the 2008 MBCA Lake Michigan Mille in a couple weeks. If you see me, aske me if the CEL is on or off.

E320 MAF problem SOLVED

Thanks to BenzWorld, I found out how to order a new Bosch MAF from a recommended online vendor and installed the MAF using the excellent post on the website:

The installation took under 15 minutes, total. That included finding the proper-sized screwdriver, cutting open the shipping box containing the new MAF, and cleaning the air filter cover with quick detailer before reinstalling it.

After installing the new MAF, I wiped down the underside of the hood and the rest of the engine compartment. Total time was 30 minutes.

I saved over $500 vs. having the MBZ dealer do the job. That’s a good ROI.

I drove the car for about 30 miles before the CEL turned itself off. I plan to be driving happily ever after.
