New SL65 Black Series ordered. Opinions wanted

I have been a view of the this site for sometime but never posted. Saturday I got confirmation that my new SL65 Black series will be in mid Jan to beginning of Feb. I had my name put on the list about 8 months ago when I first heard of it, back than it was going to be called the SLC. The earlier drawings and pics I saw with the Gull wing doors were incredible. The car looks quite a bit different then I originally thought it would. I do like what I have seen so for. I wish they went with Gull wing doors. I was wondering what other Mercedes enthusiasts think of the car. Do you think it will be a very sought after car with only 200 units for the US? Will prices go nut like other limited edition cars have gone for? With this economy, I don't know what to expect.

Killer car, no doubt. However seeing 05 SL65s going for $60K you'll take a massive hit.

BTW, what is the last car picture of?

True, after a second thought he will most likely then buy a Toyota.

I was hinting he should look at a 2 or 3 year old 65.

Black

Should have asked for opinions BEFORE ordering. Too late now. Will it ever be a timeless piece like an R107? Not likely.

I don't know if the OP was just posing here but you guys seem to be jealous. Who would buy a new car today and aiming for one that would become a classic after 20, 30 years from now? Which car should one buy today to make the above more likely than for an R230?

Jealous no, I was trying to save the man some $$. That is exactly what I'm doing soon, buying a three year old $200K SL65 roadster for $65K.

I in no way regret ordering this. Worse comes to worse, I sell it. I don't think this car could ever be equally compared to an SL65. I think i'll know 3 seconds after I step on the accelerator if I made the right choice or not. I'm sure it will be incredible.

1. Don't even think of having this car serviced anywhere but dealer.

2. EVERY POSSIBLE aftermarket item you could install on this car will be of less quality than what the car originally has and will make it look like cheap crap. Don't do it.

3. NO, the car will do very poorly holding its resale value because if you can't afford a new one you can't afford to maintain a used one.

I know this, my CLK already doesn't get anything but dealer service.

How do you know I am into after market stuff? I'm not at all in fact.

No, the car already lost the largest part of it's value. The $150,000 I'd save by buying a three year old will be plennnnnty for upkeep. Besides, how much maintenance could a car that will get driven no more than 4K miles per year require?
