considering a 4 yr old c230 komp. please help

Hi folks, I seriously thinking of a c230 coupe for my wife early next season. she loves the car, but is used to an AWD suv in the snow, so I have a couple of concerns.

I have two questions, being new to MB. Assuming a decent car, with low mileage, what sort of maintenance expense should I be looking at on average? I know there are a few weak spots, is there anything that really stands out?

Also, I'm more concerned about winter traction. I've heard mercedes traction control is excellent, so with good snow tires, are they fairly capable? Shes a good driver, I just worry about her in our northern winters.

any help is really appreciated.

Ryan

I drive a C230 Coupe for 5 1/2 years. With proper snow tires and traction control (and some common sense), no problem was ever encountered with winter driving in New Jersey.

The car will tell you when it needs service A or service B. Mainly, you want to make sure all the electrics work as they should (seats, windows, etc.).

Avoid this car. It is cheap, cheaper and cheapest. The build quality is Chrysler to a T, the electronics are shotty and will break on a regular basis, and the thing is just plain ugly. It was meant for people who couldn't really afford a Mercedes. All cost cutting measures were in full effect when Chrysler made this vehicle.

yea, I had a C240, which was actually designed to be better than a C230 coupe. It wasn't much of a Mercedes, that is for sure. Chrysler, Chrysler, Chrysler. Stick a star on the hood of a Neon 2 door and you got yourself a C230 coupe.

LOL, well, I appreciate your honesty. Maybe we should be looking at shelling out for an SLK. That would be her 1st choice anyway.

This blew my mind though, there is an '05 c230 with 55K on it, at a local dealer, and they still want 25K for it!!!!! I've seen decent examples for 10 grand less than that.

Thanks for the replies.

You are kidding right? Chrysler engineering NEVER found it's way into any Mercedes, only the other way around. For a small economy car the build quality and interior materials where excellent.

I'm sure you've heard that the A and B classes will be in sold in the US. Are these vehicles also "for people who can't afford a Mercedes?"

Your opinions seem based on wild myths and not actual substance or experience. Just like in another thread you accused all Jaguar XJ8s of the same exact things. When in fact Jaguar has been on top of all reliablity ratings for only the last 15 years. I see you owned a late model GM vehicle that you sold after just 6K miles. Wonder why?

yeah my step daughter has a c230 and has had excellent reliability. This is not to say that its a reliable car but it is in her experience. I also think that while the seats feel like crap to me and its obv not my CL its still pretty spiffy for her and she loves it.
My neighbor has one as well and I asked them what they thought before she got hers and they had no problems with theirs either. Granted these may be basic Mercedes I disagree that they share anything in common with a Neon...

Id have to agree there. We saw one at another dealer at a more realonable price, and it looked, felt and sounded far different than ANY neon Ive ever been involved with.

I hope there planning on bringing the new coupe over here. I see no reason why they wouldnt, they seemed to have sold really well in NA.
