Happy to own a Benz again!
After quite a few years I forgot how nice it is to own a Mercedes Benz again.
I strayed to a BMW 5 series, and then to a couple of Jaguars. It's good to be home.
I'm a forty-something year old who got use to MBs of old. My First was a '73 280 se 4.5, then to a couple of 123s, a 201, to a couple of 107s and finally to a 300D 2.5 turbo which I had for many years. In looking for a newer MB I soon found I didn't like anything past 1999 save the W210 chasis. I drove a few W220 cars and while they drove well and were appointed beautifully inside, they seemed cheaper in quality and have lost that firm, stable old German car feel.
I finally found a 1995 S320 lwb with 170k on the odometer for what I think was a fair price for its condition, and priced under $4,000.
I forgot how comfortable and quiet these cars were. The Jaguar XJ8 is smooth and supple, but the 140 is even better, not to mention incredibly spacious.
Everything works well except for the transmission, it only will go into 5th gear if you hold the shift lever to the right when in the "D" position. I seem to remember that there was a switch in the console which controlled this, but I'm not sure. Can anyone point me in the right direction before I head to my local dealer and spend near half of the purchase price in one stop?
The car; 1995 S320v Silver with Grey interior. Body very straight with mostly orignal paint. Interior very nice except for the wood trim around the seat controls, it's starting to de-laminate.
