1994 C280 Love my car!
I've had my car for over one year now and still love driving it. I've been trying to "restore" the car to be able to drive it as long as possible. I have a great German mechanic who worked in the Mercedes Benz Factory when he was younger and he knows the car like the back of his hand.
Of course all of you C280 owners know about the wiring harness. There should have been a recall on it, but it never happened. So you will eventually have to get that replaced. That was only major problem with my car when I bought it. Without the wiring harness working properly there is no way for your mechanic to run a diagnostic on the car.
Little things are starting to happen to the car now, which I expected. To make sure I'm getting the best price on parts, I call my local MB dealer first. Then I get the price from my local mechanic and he is always cheaper which lets me know he isn't ripping me off.
Did you know that your air bag system is only good for about 15 years? You can read about it on the inside of the driver side door. My SRS light has been on for a year now, so that is on my "list". The ABS light came on this week and the speedometer needle started to stick for the first time. Poor little car needs to see the doctor. Oh and the sunroof now sticks on the left side (won't open). Isn't it fun owning an older car? One mechanic told me, "If you're gonna play, you have to pay!" That's true when it comes to a MB.
Another thing the C280 will eventually need is a new throttle harness. The car will jerk as you take off when the harness starts going bad. If you are having problems with the car idling, have your air intake system checked. This helped my car idle much better.
The moral of my story is: I'd rather restore an older MB than have a monthly car payment.
