Getting ready to pull the trigger on a 2006 CLS500 -need quick advice PLEASE!

I am looking at a 2006 MB CLS500 with 22,700 miles on it. It has about 1.6 years left on the factory warranty. Original asking price on it was $48,500.00 which was a certified MB car. Car has black leather perforated interior which looks almost new. Body looks new also. It seems to be loaded but missing the IPOD connection, Key to go and Bluetooth phone feature. The front bumper is not the AMG one which I like allot. Also the front bumper was painted because of a very minor scratch on the bumper itself. It was filled and re painted. I have it worked down to $43K an also throw in the MB Certified warranty on it on top of the original warranty. so basically I will have close to 3 years with no deductible on it.

Is this a good price for a Certified Car? Remember all fluids and belts have been replaced and checked by a MB dealer. I was told that an MB Certified cars bring in more money, but that sounds like a sales gimmick.

Can a bluetooth, Ipod be added to the car? It has the buttons for a phone but obviously doesn't work.

I am seriously thinking of getting this car but don't know enough if I am getting a good deal? There are several good deals out there on ebay but the only issue is what kind of condition are they really in?

What should I do? If I want the AMG version bumper I am sure I can add that on later.

I wouldn't touch it. It has been one of the most unreliable cars that Mercedes (aka Chrysler) has ever produced to date. This car makes a Range Rover look reliable. If you like constant electrical failures and multiple workshop visits then this car is for you.

That's kind of a blanket statement. I googled problems on this car and it showed very little issues that returned. Also haven't seen much issues on this site either.

Please be aware that mr.xpowerseller's opinion represents the exreme. If you could read his many posts on the various forums you will find that he consistently maligns Mercedes from the Daimler Chrysler era. You should post on the W219 CLS Class forum and get feedback there. I think you'll find that most owners are very happy with their cars.

Thanks you for your feed back. I really didn't pay any attention to the negative response since he had nothing to back it up.

Yes, but you would be grumpy if the best car in your fleet was a fwed Toyota.

Certified MB cars are definitely worth more money due to the warranty and the rigorous ~150-point inspection they undergo. Everything on those cars must be up to snuff, if the dealer is following the MB guidelines. I'm sure some dealers are scrimping and letting some thing slide by, but overall, this is the best way to buy a pre-owned Benz.

I agree and the OP has negotiated an extension of the Mercedes CPO warranty which is very important for a good ownership experience.

The negotiated terms were not quite clear to me. The OP said he would have 1.6 years of the new car warranty left, and with the additional 1 yr. CPO a total of 2.6 years (plus the 100,000 miles of course). If you understood it correctly, in that he bartered an extension of the CPO, that would be 1 more year and amount to 3.6 years/100,000. That's roughly equivalent to the 4 year/50,000 mile new car warranty on a 22,700 mileage car. IMO, that's a excellent deal.

Funny how that same google search brings loads of hits on reliabilty issues.
CR has ranked the CLS as poor (at best) since it came out. It hasn't gotten that much better as time has gone on, which is not good. I have a feeling that you will get rid of this car the second it falls out of warranty. Most people do.
