Post Fuel Efficiency

Here's an interesting article from autonet.ca

T & E (Transport & Environment), a European environmental organization dedicated to campaigning for sustainable transport, has reported that German luxury carmaker, BMW improved its fuel efficiency at four times the average rate of major manufacturers last year.

The report states that "the average new car sold by BMW in 2007 typically consumed 7.3% less fuel than in the previous year., leading to a cut in average CO2 emissions from 184 g CO2/km in 2006 to 170 g CO2/km in 2007." CO2 emissions have been linked to climate change. The average for all cars sold in EU in 2007 was 1.7%.
Joe Dings, director of T & E, said "BMW has shown that even premium carmakers can seriously reduce CO2."

Other companies making notable improvements were Hyundai (down 3.9%) and Daimler AG (down 3.5%). The report says that Daimler's improvements were largely accounted for by the sale of Chrysler, not enhanced fuel efficiency of Daimler models.

"Improved comparing to last year sale" can be very misleading.
That said, BMW was fuel economy leader 30 years ago. In 1970's they supplied engines for small motor homes that made 20 mpg. In that era Dodge based small motorhomes used to make 6 to 7 mpg.
Nice after all those years the economy is something in America that people would notice.
